There are three kinds of people

There are three kinds of people: those who live in the past, those who live in the present and those who live in the future. None is better or superior to the other, they are only different. Fitting them into one of the three categories is important in explaining how they achieve success.

Most people live in the present, but some understand that one can live in the future. This changes their perspective and makes it possible to achieve success by planning the future, starting from the present and rooted in the experiences form the past.

Those who live in the past tend to look back, enjoy contemplating the past, relive in their mind what was and believe that the past was more valuable than today, and that the future is not even worth considering. They look back with nostalgia or criticism and regret.

They are sometimes willing to analyze what could have been but was not, or what they did or did not do. People in this category are often nostalgic, some feel that they have been unjustly wronged, and some even experience depression.

Some focus on past bad decisions or past wrong decisions or missed opportunities, and so live a sad and depressing life, while others enjoy and re-live those happy times and successes they once had.

Those who live in the past eventually have no control over their lives, because all the events have already happened and can no longer be influenced, the results have been already established. They can at best ascertain whether success has been achieved or not.

Those living in the present live each moment to the fullest, and are either satisfied with their lives or dissatisfied, but rarely indifferent. For them, what matters most is what is happening in the present; they are not bothered by the burden of the past or the responsibility of the future. They do not worry about the future, they let “fate” determine the course of their lives, and also, past achievements and failures do not bother them, as those have already passed. Their focus is only on the present moment. They motivate their attitude by saying: what has been, has been, and what will be, will be.

This attitude can make some people relaxed, because they do not bother themselves with issues that are not relevant. They may be happy and consider themselves fulfilled, often declaring what they have everything and do not need more. Success for them is a satisfaction gained in the present moment similar to that of a small child getting a piece of candy.

People who live in the future spend their lives designing their future, planning, and building what is to come; they decide today what their future will be like, they chart the course of their lives, decide how the coming days will unfold, what road to follow. They know what they want and are deeply focused on what will be. They think about and are captivated by the goals and results they set out to achieve. For this they turn to planning and self-motivation.

People who live in the future usually achieve success in their lives, success being defined as achieving the goals they set for themselves. They do not hesitate to look back at the past, the experiences they have lived and the memories they have, but their aim is to learn from the mistakes and failures they have made or the successes they have achieved.
